Silicone and Scleroderma Revisited PDF Print E-mail

Silicone, a synthetic polymer considered to be a biologically inert substance, is used in a multitude of medical products, the most publicly recognized of which are breast implants. Silicone breast implants have been in use since the early 1960s for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes, and reports of autoimmune disease-like syndromes began appearing in the medical literature soon thereafter. Over the previous year, silicone implants have been suggested as playing a role in a new syndrome that encompasses a wide array of immune-related manifestations, termed ASIA (‘Autoimmune Syndrome Induced by Adjuvant’).

Scleroderma, a relatively rare connective tissue disease with skin manifestations and systemic effects, has also been described in association with silicone implantation and rupture. However, epidemiological studies and meta-analyses have failed to corroborate the clinical impression of silicone-induced scleroderma. The following review describes the mechanisms by which silicone may mediate autoimmunity in general, as well as the evidence for causal associations with more specific autoimmune syndromes in general, and scleroderma in particular.

Have much to say as I have walked the walk since 1976 with McGhan/3M silicone gel breast implants as a past 1976 teenage breast implant patient, which these so-called medical devices of an illusion of the mind failed me, worse failed The Art of Medicine, all medical divisions, women's health, generations here on this earth and generations to come. I only had implants to try to correct a congenital deformity of my chest wall in my youth, (I messed my life up)... which ended in a mastectomy of both breasts. Which the mastectomy was the best surgery I could have done for my body (genetics), soul and mind. Have massive regret opting for breast implants three times, but no regret opting for the mastectomy of both breasts with failed/toxic breast implants attached.
There is "causation of b implants. I have lived it".

I note that the ASIA syndrome study on breast implants bundles disease with heavy metals attached, ALUMINUM. But scientific truth is the problem IS silicone, this man made adjuvant, ALL heavy metals in breast implant lot numbers, PLATINUM/ aluminum and genetics. Genetics is NOT the "cause".

Personally, I fully understand the need to "bundle disease"/what I term it to what reserachers did to make sense of breast implant disease w/ ASIA syndrome...but not just HLA-type patient, but do SNPs , total gene sequence of human patient. Don't say it COSTS TOO MUCH...LIFE and generations to come, OUR OFFSPRING are priceless!

Also, wanted to say concerning breast implant exposure that it is greatly important to be HLA-typed. This is something our family did have done in 1998 by researchers at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. I questioned microchimersim/chimerism, fetal cells with my extremely failed silicone gel breast implants as our daughter's skin biopsy kept coming back, morphea, consistant with. She was the index person. Her skin is extremely dry YEAR ROUND. Not just some winter problem. Silica is a dessicant, long known to "dry out". I believe my daughter is a genetic mutation. My maternal grandmother had extremely severe RA, osteoporosis/a horrible Doweger's Hump on her back & later died from MM/myeloma in her 70's. She was a smoker. My mother died from MM/myeloma in 1994 at 62 yrs old. Both were smokers. They took "hits" from smoking, Aflatoxin, aspergillus flavous, tobacco, ammonia, The P-53 Tumor Suppressor Gene, which I always believed was cancer's missing link. ME? I took "hits" of a different genetically offending trigger than they (my failed/toxic breast implants) which pulled my trigger in my youth, via the placental barrier through fetal cells, with our offspring. Breast feeding was just extra "hits". Our youngest was hit the hardest. She is a real genetic mutation, placed on this earth as a real medical epiphany for those to learn from IF those who want to see with open minds in a truly dispassionte manner want to see evolving disease as presents itself.

Thank you.

Yes, like a "two hit" theory or epigenetics. An adjuvant is a substance that can enhance the immune response to a foreign material, such as protein. Remember, enhance a foreign material (silicone) such as protein, which protein excesses are common in many diseases, primarily those that stimulate/exert/"turn on" the immune system such as diseases of autoimmunity /MS, lupus, RA, sarcoidosis, lupus... (classic or disease-like) as well as cancers/lung, brain, myeloma, lymphoma, sarcoma (classic or disease-like. Proteins accumulate on the surface of silicone, silicone gel breast implants and other silicone implants AFTER they are in human body. Medicines, vaccines, dentistry and medical devices have not been crafted/nor tailored to the variants of key genes that are being "turned on" to avoid adverse reactions, death or genetic mutations in offspring. Genetics is a foundation, but NOT the "cause". I am a past 1976 teenage breast implant patient who had a mastectomy in 1993 at age of 35. Symptoms reversed which were "turned on" by my failed lot numbers. I do have multiplle sclerosis. Silicone/silica crosses blood-brain-barrier. Electrocautry/bovie was used in my surgeries which is a NO NO to do. I have a 22 yr old with aggressive scleroderma like problem, has insulin resistance/acanthosis nigricans, very severe bone dysplasia--hands/feet are size of 15/18 month old. She wears a size 8 toddler shoe. Our family has been HLA-typed. Our daughter is in studies to date. Thank you. Cindy
